Tree Planting

Hi guys!

A few days ago, for a field trip, my grade went to Hillside Park to do tree planting. A fun fact about Hillside Park is that the land used was the very first high school in Durham that taught black people. The first thing we did when planting the tree was digging the hole. It was super fun, and super messy. Next, we had to free the tree’s roots from circling around itself. We did this because if we didn’t, the tree would have choked itself. After that we scoured the hole so our tree was not just in a big pot in the ground. After that we put our tree in. Then finally we put the dirt we dug up back in the hole. BUT WAIT, there’s more! We took a gigantic bucket of mulch and spread it in a donut shape around the tree to protect it. Oh, and did I forget to mention that in the middle of the tree planting it began to rain. So that definitely made the experience more fun. Tree planting with Make Durham Beautiful was super fun and an awesome experience. It is a great way to give back to the earth and I definitely recommend you do it; if not with Make Durham Beautiful then find your own way to plant trees or help the earth. I’d love to hear about what you did in the comment section. How are you keeping your home and city beautiful?

The Hunger Games

Title: The Hunger Games

Have you ever imagined being sent into an arena where the only way to make it out of there alive is to be the last one alive out of twenty-four people? Well, that is Katniss’s reality. Katniss somehow ends up in the Hunger Games. To make matters worse, she ends up in the Hunger Games with Peeta Mellark. She and Peeta have some history. The title of the magnificent book is The Hunger Games. The author of The Hunger Games is Suzanne Collins, and the genre is Science Fiction.

Katniss, the main character, somehow ends up in the Hunger Games. Peeta Mellark, a boy she has history with, is the other tribute from her district. Katniss must put her history behind her and win the Hunger Games for her little sister, Prim. Her dad died a few years ago, and now it is Katniss’s job to provide for her family. Katniss hunts so she can have food on her table for dinner. In this book, there are twelve districts and a capital that went to war. Now, seventy-four years later, the capital hosts the Hunger Games every year to remind the districts of their victory. By the way, if you like a little romance, this book is for you. Will Katniss make it out of the Hunger Games alive? Read the Hunger Games to find out!

I think the book was awesome because it was so engaging. When I read, I need action, and at the end of each chapter of this book, there is a cliffhanger. I would keep finding myself having trouble putting this book down. I truly think it is a page turner. Something that stood out to me about this book is that you start feeling how Katniss feels. When she’s disoriented and confused, you’re disoriented and confused, when she really wants to know something, you really want to know something, and when she is feeling really happy, you are really happy. The Hunger Games is a really good book.

My favorite part of the book is when Katniss shoots the apple in the pig’s mouth because she was annoyed that people were not watching her. I love it because it shows a hilarious part of Katniss’s personality.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who’s prepared to read an awesome book. I would give this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of five stars!

This book is a must-read, and I encourage you to jump right into the world of Katniss Everdeen.

If you’ve ever read this book or have decided to read this book, keep me updated on your favorite parts of the book!

Snow Day!!! (Again)

I can’t believe it snowed again! It snowed like three inches. Because there was more snow, the sledding was really fun. Two other kids who live in my neighborhood and I were all able to fit on one sled! It might not have been the fastest ride ever, but it was still fun. We had a couple of crashes. 😂. Later that day, my sister and I had snow-cones!!! They were so good! We used plastic cones and filled them up with the snow we had in our backyard. Then we added in the fruit syrup. (With no natural fruit flavor or real fruit at all, we checked) But don’t worry…there was still plenty of high fructose corn syrup and red forty. I added so much of the fruit syrup to mine! It was really sweet. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was more fruit syrup in there than snow! What’s your favorite snow-cone flavor? Leave it in the comment box. I like blue raspberry, grape, and cherry. I don’t think blue raspberry a real flavor. I mean, why not just have a blueberry flavor? Are you on team blueberry or team blue raspberry? Leave it in the comment box. I really want to know what you think. I’m team blueberry all the way! Anyway, my snow day was super fun, and I hope yours was too!

Winter Castle

On Sunday, the other kids in my neighborhood and I wanted to make a snow creation. We quickly realized that there was not enough snow for an igloo. So then we decided to make a migloo (mini igloo). Eventually, the idea of a migloo turned into a snow castle. We used snow, ice, and water and made a beautiful creation!
