Hi guys!
A few days ago, for a field trip, my grade went to Hillside Park to do tree planting. A fun fact about Hillside Park is that the land used was the very first high school in Durham that taught black people. The first thing we did when planting the tree was digging the hole. It was super fun, and super messy. Next, we had to free the tree’s roots from circling around itself. We did this because if we didn’t, the tree would have choked itself. After that we scoured the hole so our tree was not just in a big pot in the ground. After that we put our tree in. Then finally we put the dirt we dug up back in the hole. BUT WAIT, there’s more! We took a gigantic bucket of mulch and spread it in a donut shape around the tree to protect it. Oh, and did I forget to mention that in the middle of the tree planting it began to rain. So that definitely made the experience more fun. Tree planting with Make Durham Beautiful was super fun and an awesome experience. It is a great way to give back to the earth and I definitely recommend you do it; if not with Make Durham Beautiful then find your own way to plant trees or help the earth. I’d love to hear about what you did in the comment section. How are you keeping your home and city beautiful?
